Step Cut Diamond Rings

Starting from the outer edges, the steps reach the top in step cut diamonds. Sometimes the corners of a step cut diamond may have facets that have been rounded off. This variation in style in step cut diamonds is known as the Emerald cut. However in case where a diamond contains large inclusions, these may become noticeable in some step cut diamonds having open appearance.

Step cut diamonds are yet to be as popular as the round or modified brilliant cuts. The reason lies in the step cut style itself. Having fewer numbers of facets in step cut diamonds give them a shallow look. This shallowness creates an effect of less depth thus making the step cut diamonds comparatively less brilliant and sparkly. This does not however means that these diamond cuts are not without their beauties. Step cut diamonds reflect light from their surface quite well making them full of luster. This cut also does not fail to highlight the colour and clarity of a diamond. Apart from this, more weight of diamond is lost in case of round brilliant cut diamonds than in step cut diamonds. The Baguette and Emerald cuts are variants of step cut. The step cuts are generally seen in the diamond jewelry of old periods like the antique jewelry of Art Deco. That is why the step cut diamonds or step cut baguettes are used for repairing antique jewelry. What the step cut diamonds fail to convey, that is, the reflective splendour of a diamond, it makes good by the balancing benefit of providing the diamond with a luster of superb whiteness and clarity.
